Welcome to our last wedding of 2011!

I wasn’t sure if I was going to have enough time to put together a sneak peek of Ellen & Karl’s wedding before Christmas but I reckoned they’d be dying to see some of the images from their day, so here goes….

Ellen & Karl got married in the Church of the Assumption in Bree & the reception took place in the Ferrycarrig Hotel in Wexford. The location of the hotel is stunning with sweeping views across the river Slaney. It was bitterly cold on the day so we didn’t get to go outside for long but there was a fantastic room with beautiful big windows overlooking the river where we got some wonderful naturally lit shots of Ellen & Karl.

Ellen & Karl, we had a really great time with the two of you. Your families were so friendly & welcoming – it made our job so much easier! Hope the skiing was great fun. Have a wonderful first Christmas as husband & wife!

Despite the bitter cold & rain Valain & John’s wedding was full of joy and happiness. They held their reception in the lovely Ballymagarvey Village in Co. Meath which made for a wonderfully romantic backdrop for the day. The house was a very welcome sight when we got back from St. Cianan’s Church in Duleek – the fires were burning, it was toasty warm and beautifully decked out for Christmas. With lots of nooks and crannies and a very cool little bar (which we had all to ourselves!) we were able to capture some lovely intimate moments of them both.

I had a lovely chat with Valain’s father during the preparations and he recounted very lovingly how Valain & John had met in the week of their first year in college and how they’ve been together since. Their love was so evident and I think all you have to do is look at that hug after they were pronounced ‘Husband & Wife’ – I think it says it all!

Valain & John, thank you so much for inviting Mark and I to be part of your wedding day. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

Sometimes everything just works out exactly as it was supposed to…..

Mark & I had visited Emo Court a couple of months ago to come up with a photo plan for Helen and John’s wedding. We had all our spots listed out and ideas to go with each, but on the day we weren’t allowed access to one of the main areas we had in mind. After a slight reshuffle (and a few deep breaths!) we found the most amazing field with a glorious tree and the most beautiful sunshine!

I had spotted the tree on our previous visit but thought it might be a bit much to ask John & Helen to trek over there. Fortunately on the day we were able to drive into the field (a huge thanks to Thomas, their good friend and driver on the day for all his patience) and no trekking was required. It seems the planets were aligned for us all on the day!

Helen & John were such a dream couple, extremely happy & smiley and totally on for our copious amounts of photo ideas. Helen & John, thank you for sharing your day with us. Hope you’re having an amazing time in Vegas & California!

Lisa & Stephen booked their honeymoon to New Zealand seriously early last year in the hope of seeing Ireland play in the Rugby World Cup – so Ireland’s win against Australia made for a very exciting start to their wedding day last Saturday! No doubt there were some serious celebrations well into the wee hours of the morning. They got married minutes from Lisa’s family home in Cabinteely and had their reception in Rosedale House in Shankill – a wonderful private residence surrounded by beautiful gardens within a few minutes walk to the sea – all in all pretty perfect really! Lisa & Stephen, we hope you’re having a fantastic time in New Zealand & you bring some good luck to the Ireland team.

The speeches were some of best we’d ever heard –  a few tears were shed but as you can see below there were also gales of laughter :)

Carol & Johnny got married a couple of weeks ago in a beautiful little church in Gowran, Co. Kilkenny & held their reception afterwards in Lyrath Estate Hotel. They were both amazingly calm and took the whole day completely in their stride. A lot of their calmness has obviously rubbed off on their beautiful little girl Anna who was more than happy to have her photo taken…..she even managed to stay the course for the family shots! I completely fell in love with Carol’s vintage veil….it added a lovely nostalgic & romantic feel to the photos. Everything about the day felt so personal – to top it all off Carol gave an amazing piano recital for all 100 guests! Johnny, Carol & Anna, we wish the three of you a wonderful & very happy life together.

Nicole & Robbie got married a few weeks ago in Rathfeigh Church. It was a beautiful ceremony but the highlight for me had to be their closing prayer which was an excerpt from ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’, describing what true love really is – I found myself getting a little emotional I admit! You can read the excerpt below in an earlier blog post ‘What is Love?’. They held their reception in Ballymagarvey Village, a really beautiful spot. It dates back to 1800 and was originally a corn and flax mill, so as you can imagine it has some serious character & was crying out to be photographed! Behind the house is a beautiful cypress tree lined avenue which looks & feels like somewhere in the heart of Tuscany. It was threatening all day to rain but thankfully the rains stayed away until we had literally taken our last shot when the heavens opened!! Talk about good timing!

When you fall in love, it is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake, and then it subsides. And when it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the desire to mate every second of the day. It is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every part of your body. No… don’t blush. I am telling you some truths. For that is just being in love; which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over, when being in love has burned away…

From ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’

As you can see from the photos, there was a bit of a tennis theme going on here! I was very excited when Sarah-Jane mentioned the old tennis court in Marlfield House & the fact that she would love to have some photos taken there! She’s an avid tennis player & when she saw the court it seemed too good a chance to miss. My mind went into overdrive! I love it when the bride & groom get involved in the photography and come up with ideas…it makes the photos far more personal and results in photos that will mean a lot more to the couple. Thanks for the ideas Sarah-Jane & Peter – we hope you love the results!

I honestly don’t think we’ve ever come across a more smiley bride! Jayne was beaming from the second I arrived at the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny to capture the prep shots and she hadn’t stopped by the time we were leaving 6 hours later! The excitement was palpable & quite infectious. It was such a happy day, their love for one another was so evident & everyone just seemed so happy to be there …. I love those kinds of days! Jayne & Dermot, thank you so much for such a great day!

We love getting feedback from our brides & grooms and we were particularly excited when we received this email from Jayne & Dermot as they were just about to head off on honeymoon:

Aine and Mark,
We’re away today on our honeymoon but couldn’t go without saying a huge thank you to you both for being the perfect company on Friday! You were more like friends there taking photos … You made us both feel so at ease and relaxed! Especially Aine when you arrived in Lyrath at 12 and Mark when you met the lads in the pub, you were so unobtrusive! And then with the group photos…everyone raved so much about how lovely you both were!!

thank you thank you thank you!! we’re dying to see the photos!! we’ll definitely be telling all our friends who are getting married all about ye!!!!
